Teacher Assessment - The Accredited Teachers

One of the benefits of Asset Languages is the flexibility and manageability of the scheme. Since it is an assessment scheme and not a 'scheme of work', you can adapt it to fit your own circumstances in your teaching environment. For more details about teacher assessment, see the following sections:

In response to your feedback, from September 2007, we have made the Accredited Teacher Training process simpler.  Please see the following summary document for more details:

Summary of improvements to Asset Languages

What's the role of an Accredited Teacher?

All language teachers can use teacher assessment (and conduct external assessment speaking tests).

Centres with access to an Accredited Teacher may also purchase and issue Grade Award certificates from OCR. The Accredited Teacher must be accredited for the relevant stage.

What's the process for becoming an Accredited Teacher?

Step 1 - Purchase a Teacher Assessment Pack (for use with learners). This includes teacher accreditation materials.

Step 2 - Complete the optional two marking exercises and return to OCR if you wish to become an Accredited Teacher and be able to purchase Grade Awards.

Step 3 - Receive feedback and, if successful, receive a letter containing your Accredited Teacher number.

Step 4 - Purchase the relevant Grade Awards for any language at this stage.

What does the training involve?

Accredited Teacher training is provided by stage and consists of self-access materials that can be worked through at the time and place of the teacher’s choice.

The accreditation consists of two marking exercises:

One is marking some scripts from teacher assessment writing tasks and
One is on the marking of external assessment of speaking.

An OCR assessor checks that the tasks have been completed satisfactorily, to the standards laid down by OCR. All prospective Accredited Teachers receive feedback along with an Accredited Teacher number for successful applicants.

The training can be completed in a variety of ways. It can be done individually, as part of departmental training within a centre or as part of a liaison meeting with another centre or centres. The training is expected to take about 4 hours. When completed, the teacher should have a good understanding of the proficiency expected across the stage. The training for subsequent stages should take significantly less time.

Our Accredited Teacher has left - what do we do?

If you need to replace an Accredited Teacher, all you need to do is submit another assessment form.

If you need to replace any of the Accredited Teacher training materials, please use the following catalogue and order form:

   Teacher Assessment Pack Catalogue
   Teacher Assessment Pack order form

Please only complete this form if you are requesting additional/replacement Accredited Teacher training materials as the materials are also included free of charge with Teacher Assessment Packs.

We don't have language specialists - what do we do?

If your centre doesn't have a languages specialist but you want to get involved in Asset Languages, you should contact your LEA, a local Specialist Language College or CILT for guidance.
