Here you will find:
The information you need regarding performance indicators for languages.
How Asset qualifications equate against general qualifications.
Details about how Asset qualifications gain Achievement and Attainment table points. The points for each skill are shown in the table below.
A letter from School's Minister Jim Knight highlighting the benchmarks for languages at Key Stage 4 and how schools can work towards them.
The overall Level 2 measure of 5 A*-C represents a notional threshold of 100% – thus each full GCSE at A*-C or equivalent contributes 20% towards this measure. Any approved level 2 languages qualification regardless of size will contribute to the overall A*-C measure. It is possible to establish the contribution of any approved qualification by looking on the National Database for Qualifications and clicking on the performance figures for any individual qualification.
Any qualifications must be at level 2 (equivalent to GCSE A*-C) and must add up to a 20% contribution or more to the level 2 threshold e.g:
1 GCSE at grade A*-C (20%)
2 Short Course GCSEs at grade A*-C (2 x 10%)
4 Asset Languages at Intermediate (4 x 5%)
4 NVQ language units at level 2 (4 x 5%)
Any qualifications which are equivalent to the minimum of a GCSE short course at D-G and contribute 10% or more to the Level 1 threshold e.g:
GCSE Short Course at grade A*-C or D-G (10%)
2 Asset Languages at Preliminary or Intermediate (2 x 5%)
2 NVQ language units at level 1 or level 2 (2 x 5%)
2 Asset Languages (Preliminary or Intermediate)
+ 1 NVQ language unit (level 1 or 2) (10%)
GSCE at grade D-G (20%)
These qualifications must be at level 1 (equivalent to GCSE grade D-G) or level 2 (A*-C) and represent at least a 10% contribution to the threshold.

A full list of qualifications can be found on the National Database of Qualifications and can be found by:
• searching by name or through QCA website
• searching for qualifications or units
• searching by language.
By clicking on performance figures it is possible to see what the contribution is to the overall A*-C and A*-G measure
The table below indicates how the Languages Ladder compares with other qualification frameworks although there is not a precise equivalence with them. However, the relationship with the National Curriculum levels, the National Qualifications Framework and other frameworks can provide a useful point of reference.
