Results explained

Each external assessment covers an entire stage of the DCSF Languages Ladder. Candidates who achieve marks at or above the minimum standard will be awarded one of three grades:

 Advanced

 12
 11
 10

  Intermediate

 9
 8
 7

 Preliminary

 6
 5
 4
  Breakthrough  3
 2
 1

All of these grades count as a ‘Pass’.

For each stage, the highest number is the highest grade available (e.g. 3 is the highest grade for the Breakthrough Stage). Candidates who have not achieved the minimum standard for an assessment will be shown as U (Ungraded). This applies to all stages.

Absent candidates are shown as X.

Certificates issued to candidates will feature explanatory text printed on the reverse, containing the Languages Ladder ‘Can-Do’ statements that relate to each grade.
