Teacher Assessment
- Teacher assessment provides a useful way of assessing your students' language ability using a pack of tasks supplied by OCR in a Teacher Assessment Pack.

- The Teacher Assessment Pack contains tasks in all 4 skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
- Teacher assessment takes place in the classroom and can be given to individual learners in class time.
- Teachers can adapt some of the tasks to fit in with their own programme of study, following the guidelines given in the pack.
- It is designed to be part of the programme of work for candidates and can lead to a Grade Award certificate.
- Teacher assessment can be used to find out whether learners are ready for external assessment.

If you want to reward your students for completing tasks from the Teacher Assessment Pack with Grade Award certificates, one teacher in a centre needs to complete the Accredited Teacher Training material which is supplied with each Teacher Assessment Pack. (The training material can also be ordered separately at a small cost).
- The training is self access and requires completion of two marking exercises.
- When completed, this is submitted to OCR for moderation.
- Once accreditation is received, the teacher is accredited to oversee awarding Grade Awards for any language within a stage e.g Breakthrough.

In order to achieve an award at a given grade, the learner must complete a series of tasks, some of which are similar to the corresponding external assessment tasks.
Since it does not involve external assessment, a Grade Award cannot be regarded as a formal qualification within the National Qualification Framework.
It does nevertheless provide learners with:
- A short-term motivational goal
- A good measure of their attainment for use in a range of informal contexts
- Preparation for external assessment
