Asset Languages Structure

The Languages Ladder / Asset Languages

The table below indicates how the Languages Ladder compares with other qualification frameworks although there is not a precise equivalence with them. However, the relationship with the National Curriculum levels, the National Qualifications Framework and other frameworks can provide a useful point of reference.

 Stages  NQF

 General Quals

 National Curriculum

 CEF approx
 Mastery: Grades 16 & 17  Level 6      C1/C2
 Proficiency: Grades 13-15  Level 4      B2/C1
 Advanced: Grades 10-12  Level 3  AS / A Level    B1/B2
 Intermediate: Grades 7-9  Level 2  GCSE A* - C  7-EP  A2/B1
 Preliminary: Grades 4-6  Level 1  GCSE D - G  4-6  A1/A2
 Breakthrough: Grades 1-3  Entry Level  Entry 1-3  1-3  A1

The Asset Languages scheme is based on the Can Do statements of the Languages Ladder. These describe what learners can do with language at a certain level in terms of actual outcomes; 'I can talk about my plans for the future' and they can be related to real world activities; 'I can write a simple text seeking information'
